My son has been in for 2 years. I realized at his graduation , how important it is to have family there to support our new Marines. And the expenses involved for the families make the trip hard to impossible for many. This lead me to my first Marine Corp marathon is support of Marine Parents. This was an injury recovery run. My slowest 10k ever. It gave me time to reflect on how our hard our service members with PTSD must fight to get back to a new 'normal' .

My friend and I are partners in crime lol our sons played football together for some years and that's how we became friends, we have always supported each other in life challenges, From breast cancer to jobs, we started walking during COVID-19 to get out of the house and socialize , at the same time I have friends that were getting depressed so I wanted to show them that getting out and moving can help mentally , PTSD is real my husband is a Marine Veteran and I have seen it, I have a son serving the USMC in Japan and I want him to know that it can be managed and it can happen to anyone , Zana and I love to do for others from working food banks together to doing breast cancer walks, we wanted to join the efforts To bring awareness to PTSD

We were asked to run with a partner as a show of solidarity to those suffering from PTSD. My original intent was to run with my trusty 4-legged running partner, but instead my Marine Reservist said he wanted to be my running partner for the race!!!! Of course I was thrilled!! It was a super stormy day so we waited until there was a break in the weather but by then it was super muggy Texas day! My goal was to run under an 8-minute mile pace, which we did the first mile!! However my race bib disentegrated from the humidity and so did we!!! We drastically slowed done to get it done!!!! After we ran, we trimmed all the low lying branches hanging over the running path at our loop.

I am a poolee mom, Nurse Practitioner, and former VA nurse. I don't know what the future holds for my "hopefully" future Marine, but I know PTSD is a serious and real consequence for military personnel. I was excited to show my support for PTSD Awareness! I love running, biking, and hiking, so this was a perfect outlet to show my support!

My friend Teresa and I did this 5k together because we both have family that are serving or have served. My husband is a Retired Army Veteran, and our son is currently serving in the US Marines. Teresa's mother and father both served Air Force and her sister is currently serving Air Force. So this cause is important to both of us.

I ran the PTSD Awareness Run virtually with two wonderful friends who I met through MarineParents. It was nice cheering each other on and chatting via FaceTime along the 5K. Thank you MarineParents for an engaging and meaningful virtual run to bring awareness to PTSD and demonstrate the importance of having a "buddy" to get you through. Just like I did today during the run.
